Bulgarian Association of Recycling (BAR) is established in 1998 and is officially registered in the Court as a as a non-profit in March 1999. The organization is a non-political, voluntary, independent organization of adherents. The Association is a legal person with a Head office in Bulgaria;

The Association`s main aims are to:
1. Protect the interests of the ferrous and non-ferrous metal traders; of plastic, paper, glass waste etc. management and dealing;
2. Investigate the legal, technical, economical, financial, environmental and other problems, related to BAR's members interests and find respective solutions on it;
3. Assist the professional development of its members, their business relations and contacts with the similar national and international organizations;
4. Promote the good image of the Ferrous and Non-ferrous metal trade, as well as the paper, plastic and glass waste management in the country and abroad;
5. Support contacts and good coooperation with the Public Institutions, responsible for the regulation of its members;
6. Provide assistance and consultancy (free off-charge) for members and (against payment) for non-members on environmental projects and inter or co-financing funds.
7. Promote the attraction of foreign investments for the implementation of project aiming on the preservation of natural environment;

The Association conducts by its General Assembly, the Board of the Managers, the Controlling Board and the Chairmen.

The Bulgarian Association of Recycling unites over 50 companies, skilled in ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel scrap, paper, plastic, glass etc. activities as collection, processing, transportation and trade. They posses a numerous of well-equipped scrap-yards placed around the most developed industrial regions in the country.

The employed staff of the above mentioned entrepreneurs according to the National statistics amounted over than 15 000 persons. The Bulgarian Association of Recycling is a member of the Bureau of International Recycling, /BIR/ with Head office in Brussels since 1999 and join its Ferrous; Non-Ferrous and Stainless-steel Divisions; It is also invited to become a National member of such prestige organizations as EFR (European Ferrous Recovery and Recycling Federation) and EUROMETREC (European Metal Trade and Recycling Federation).

BAR identifies as an active member of the National organizations of the employers in the country- Bulgarian Industrial Association and Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
